Electrical Safety
- Before working on a computer make sure that it is disconnected from the power supply.
- Hold the power button for a few seconds after it is disconnected to completely drain the computer.
- Electrostatic shock
- Occurs from static that is on your body or clothes being released into a circuit when you touch it.
- To prevent electrical shock wear an anti-static wristband when working on computers.
- Wear the wristband tight on your wrist and clip the other end onto a grounded object.
High Voltage Device Safety
- Most PC circuits are low voltage/low current
- There are some exceptions
- Power supplies
- Laser printers
- Never open units that have high voltage warnings unless you are trained to do so.
